It's the circle of life

Setting: 1994-95, my parents' living room
Characters: me, Mufasa, Simba, Nala, Sarabi, Scar, Timon, Puumba, Zaazu, Rafiki
How: My sister & her husband gave me The Lion King on VHS for my 5th or 6th birthday

As you can see above, the movie starts out powerfully. It ends just as powerfully. Many have seen it all over the world in many languages and many have felt different emotions and even been brought to tears. Yet, the one question I always wondered is, What's the "circle of life"??
It hit me...no, not then and not even in the following ten years...but in the past few days.
I will share but first, I want to share the song lyrics with you:

Nants ingonyama bagithi Baba [Here comes a lion, Father]
Sithi uhm ingonyama [Oh yes, it's a lion]

Nants ingonyama bagithi baba
Sithi uhhmm ingonyama
Ingonyama

Siyo Nqoba [We're going to conquer]
Ingonyama
Ingonyama nengw' enamabala [A lion and a leopard come to this open place]

[Chant repeats]

From the day we arrive on the planet
And blinking, step into the sun
There's more to see than can ever be seen
More to do than can ever be done
There's far too much to take in here
More to find than can ever be found
But the sun rolling high
Through the sapphire sky
Keeps great and small on the endless round

It's the Circle of Life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the Circle
The Circle of Life

It's the Circle of Life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the Circle
The Circle of Life

Maybe we could attribute some of this to The Notebook but for the past couple of months, I wondered about how, in romantic relationships, people marry, spend years together and then they die...I thought about how life is that you come and then you're gone and about how people link up with each other to live their lives together and then it ends. Thinking about life and death, I realized some things. Some, I already know and you already know but we just have not thought of in this way until now:

We get one chance at this life and people come and go.
So, we come, we go, what we do with our life is up to us and then it's over. This is one lifetime that we have. The existence of generations imply that time and life continue, at least for a while, but that the people living it rotate. So, if this is my time, my turn at life, my chance to live before I die, I've got to live while I have this life. Also, instead of thinking about how people see you, realize that the people only know what you show. You're human like them and the choices you make now shape your life and what legacy you leave and what impression people have of you. Be who you want. Live as best as you possibly can.

I thought of the term, circle of life and how befitting it is. I thought about the song. It's a great song in delivering this message but they made one mistake: It's not the sun but the Son. GOD IS ALWAYS IN CONTROL AND HE HAS GIVEN US THIS LIFETIME AND EMPOWERED AND EQUIPPED US WITH EVERYTHING WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO SERVE AND WORSHIP HIM AND LIVE OUR BEST LIVES TO THE FULL NOW.

So, I leave you now with a video of the song remade, celebrating Lion King 1 1/2, back in 2006. Disney channel stars Hilary Duff, Orlando Brown, Tahj Mowry, Kayla Pratt, Raven Symone, Christy Carlson Romano, A.J. Trauth & Anneliese Van Der Pol were kids when The Lion King came out and now they sing to a next generation ((lyrics are below the video)):

(RAVEN)
OOh yeah

(ORLANDO BROWN)
Uh huh I like that

(TAHJ MOWRY)
From the day we arrive on the planet

(ORLANDO BROWN)
And blinking, step into the sun

(ANNALIESE VAN DER POL)
There's more to be seen than can ever be seen

(RAVEN)
More to do than could ever be done

(TAHJ MOWRY)
Some say eat or be eaten

(ORLANDO BROWN)
Some say live and let live

(KYLA PRATT and CRISTY CARLSON ROMANO)
But all are agreed as they join the stampede

(CRISTY CARLSON ROMANO)
You should never take more than you give

(Chorus)
(ALL)
In the circle of life
It's the wheel of fortune
It's the leap of faith
It's the band of hope
Till we find our place- (RAVEN)-First time only
On the path unwinding
In the circle, the circle of life

(HILARY DUFF)
Some of us fall by the wayside
And some of us soar to the stars

(A.J. TRAUTH)
And some of us sail through our troubles

(ORLANDO BROWN)
And some have to live with the scars

(ANNALIESE VAN DER POL)
There's far too much to take in here

(RAVEN)
More to find than could ever be found

(ORLANDO BROWN and CHRISTY CARLSON ROMANO)
But the sun rolling high through the sapphire sky

(TAHJ MOWRY)
Keeps great and small on the endless round

(Chorus 2x)

(HILARY DUFF)
On the path unwinding...

(RAVEN)
In the circle,

(TAHJ MOWRY)
circle of life.

(ANNALIESE VAN DER POL)
IIIIIFFFFFEEEEEEEE

(ORLANDO Brown)
OH-OO-OO-OO

(TAHJ MOWRY)
OH-OH-OH-OH
